FORMALIZ3D is one of the most recent brands on MakeTank and it's also a good example of what modern manufacturing technologies can offer to young creatives: a way to switch rapidly from school (in the broadest sense) to actual product lines. The minds behind FORMALIZ3D are Matteo Meraldi, Simone Colombo and Dario Sartori, who graduated in Product Design at IED Milano just two years ago, in 2012.

From IED to products: it's been a short step crowned by Rumbles lamps line: "It was one of our first creations - they explain - and got a lot of success during Fuorisalone in Milano". There are three Rumbles lamps at the moment, all made via 3D printing.

FORMALIZ3D is now focused mostly on lighting because "light offers unlimited forms of expression" and aims at mixing functionality with aesthetics: these are, for our three creatives, the two most important elements which must distinguish a light source.

FORMALIZ3D's relationship with technology is clear and also a close one ("technology is our bread and butter: we are always looking for new technologies and we like to experiment", they say) but not just for technology's sake: "we start always from the use of the object we want to develop".

Talking about techniques, all this translates in a wide range of possibilities: "We use mostly 3D printing, but often combined with other technologies like CNC milling and laser cutting/engraving". To design lamps, now, but this does not mean that in the future creativity can't follow other paths. "We're already developing new projects for fashion and interior design markets", explain  Matteo, Simone and Dario. So, stay tuned.
